Students with a previous Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field would qualify to apply to the Accelerated B.S.N. program offered by Research College of Nursing and Rockhurst University. This unique program provides qualified students with the opportunity to complete the B.S.N. degree in 12 months. In addition to possessing a Bachelor’s degree students must complete pre-requisites including 9 credit hours at Rockhurst University. A complete list of pre-requisites can be found by visiting the Undergraduate Program Requirements section of our catalog on-line.
Students can begin the application process as early as 16 months prior to the January they wish to enter the 12 month program. This time frame is recommended to allow for completion of pre-requisites including the 9 hours required by Rockhurst University. Although students do not have to complete the pre-requisites prior to applying to the program, it is recommended that students have a minimum of 2 science courses completed (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology or Chemistry) to be competitive in the applicant pool. Students apply on-line through the NursingCAS website at https://portal.nursingcas.org. The admission committee meets on a rolling basis beginning 15 months prior to the January class. The application deadline is April 1st however we will go to a waiting list when we fill the class. A cumulative GPA of >3.0 (GPA may be based on the applicant’s entire academic record or calculated using transcripts from the last 3 years of college attendance) or a 2.8 or higher with a B- in Physiology is required.
The Accelerated B.S.N. option is full-time and students need to be in a position where they do not have to work for one year while completing the program. Completion of the 12 month nursing curriculum allows students to be eligible to sit for licensure to become a Registered Nurse.
