Message from the President

Thad Wilson, Kansas City nursing school presidentWelcome to Research College of Nursing. It is an honor and a privilege to be the President of a college so committed to excellence in nursing education, individual development, and service to the community.

This is a challenging and energizing time to be engaged in nursing and nursing education, and I am pleased you are interested in finding out more about our distinctive College. The College has its roots in the history of Research Medical Center, which began in 1886 as the German Hospital. In 1905, the German Hospital Training School for Nurses admitted its first class and later changed its name to coincide with Research Hospital. A unique affiliation was formed with Rockhurst University, a Jesuit institution, in 1979 that has created a program known for its unique attributes:

  • Experiential learning opportunities that leverage the school’s partnership with Research Medical Center and HCA’s regional and national reach.
  • A values-based academic framework that is anchored in the Jesuit identity.
  • Student-centered education that fosters close interaction with faculty members inside and outside of the classroom, practicing nurses, and community leaders.
  • Award-winning faculty, innovative approaches to education, and an active program of leadership development.

The College’s faculty are clinical experts in their fields, as well as creative and innovative teachers. They are committed to partnering with you to ensure your success in our program by facilitating not only your progression through coursework, but your development into a professional who will make a positive difference in the lives of others!!

Our graduates are prepared to contribute to the highly complex health field – ranging from direct patient care to managing health systems. Over 3500 students have graduated since 1905. Our exceptional alumni are a reflection of the Research educational experience… they are leaders in a constantly changing healthcare environment; practitioners who are competent and compassionate; and individuals who are concerned about the human experience of those in all walks of life.

As the art and science of health and healthcare evolves, Research College of Nursing remains committed to students, patients, families, and communities. Our mission states that we “are committed to empowering people, by educating nurses, developing leaders, and caring for our communities.” I invite you to explore our website and join our community of learners. If you have any questions, please email me. I look forward to hearing from you!

With warm regards,
Thad Wilson, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAANP
