MSN program closure

In January 2022, Research College of Nursing announced plans to suspend admission to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program effective January 15, 2022. Thereby graduating the final cohort for the Family Nurse Practitioner track along with the final cohort of the online Executive Practice & Healthcare Leadership and Nurse Educator tracks in December 2024.

In August 2022 the RCoN Governing Board voted to close the MSN program. As a result, no MSN courses will be offered nor MSN degrees conferred after December 17, 2024. While the decision to close the graduate program was difficult, there is no planned workforce reduction based on this decision. The College is prioritizing resources away from the steep competition in the market of graduate education to ensure we have the workforce, equipment and facilities needed to achieve our undergraduate program growth goals.

As the region’s largest, and longest running single purpose institution, Research College of Nursing strives to be the college of choice for nurses who desire to lead in practice, service and advocacy. Along with our strategic plan to enroll 600 BSN students by 2026, RCoN will continue to proactively evaluate our academic offerings to ensure we are meeting the career needs of nursing students and the workforce needs of the community.

Thank you for considering RCoN to be your academic partner in your nursing journey. We are excited to explore new academic offerings that will continue to drive our mission of educating nurses, developing leaders and caring for communities.
