Accelerated BSN

Kendra Newey

Kendra Newey, Student Ambassador
Cohort:
Accelerated BSN class of May 2024
Bachelor's Degree:
I’m originally from a small town outside of Dallas, Texas. That’s where I completed high school. After I graduated high school, I moved to Utah and completed my undergraduate degree and prerequisites in Exercise Science and Outdoor Recreation at Utah Valley University.
Hobbies:
I love anything that involves being active, especially volleyball and being outdoors. We have two giant dogs that prefer the outdoors and we take them on hikes and walks whenever we get the chance.
Why RCoN?:
There are so many reasons that I initially chose RCoN, like the program completion rate, NCLEX pass rate, and length of the program. Since I had a whole teaching career prior to completing nursing school, I really wanted to complete a program quickly, while not compromising my education in the process. RCoN has so many special opportunities like the HCA Scholarship program, but really the faculty here are incomparable. I have never met more genuine and passionate professors as a whole, who want you to succeed academically, professionally, and personally.
Advice for prospective students:
Nursing school can seem daunting, but remember that you have complete control over being an active part in your own education. Ask questions. Be the first to volunteer. Say “yes” to things that scare you. Introduce yourself to strangers in your cohort. Try the skill you’ve never done before. Whatever the task is, just choose to be a part of it. Play an active role in your education, it will make you a better nurse and you will learn very early on how to be uncomfortable, so when that day as a new graduate nurse comes, you might not know everything, but you’ll be comfortable jumping in to learn it.

Madison Martin

Madison Martin, Student Ambassador
Cohort:
Accelerated BSN class of December 2024
Bachelor’s Degree:
I moved around quite a bit during my college years, but graduated with my bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Missouri.
Hobbies:
I absolutely love reading. Fantasy, romance, sci-fi, thriller, horror, if it is a book to read for fun, I am most likely reading it! I also enjoy spending time with my family, especially during the summer at the lake, and friends.
Why RCoN?
I was previously a police dispatcher and really enjoy helping people. I wanted to be able to help people, in person, and have more of an impact than being on the phone with them and having limited options. I want to be able to make a difference in the health care that people receive and interacting and learning from the staff and faculty really solidified my choice. Everyone wants you to succeed and they give you the tools and materials to make that happen. My mom also had a big impact on me coming here, she graduated from the ABSN program at RCoN and she absolutely loved it!
Why be an ambassador?
Everyone at RCoN wants to help and guide you to become a fantastic and professional nurse, so why would I not want to be a part of that process for other students as well?

Chase Morstorf

Chase Morstorf, Student Ambassador
Cohort:
Accelerated BSN class of 2024
Completed Pre-Requisites:
I started my College career at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth KS. I attended for 3 years and graduated with my Bachelors in psychology. I finished my prerequisites at Johnson County Community College.
Why RCoN?
Why I decided to attend RCoN is because I found that the community here is all about making a successful nurse. I also feel that all the staff and students make you feel like you are family here. I also decided RCoN because my high school teacher is an employee of the school and she was very encouraging to me in starting the program.
Why did you want to be an ambassador?
I choose to be an ambassador because I want to help make a future for this program and school. Also, I believe that it is important to encourage younger adults to follow their dreams in healthcare and not be discouraged.
Advice for prospective students:
My advice for future nursing students is to just do it! I know that it could be scary and not easy, but unless you take the risk you will have regret.

Makenzi Schroeder

Makenzi Schroeder, Student Ambassador
Cohort:
Accelerated BSN class of December 2024
Bachelor’s Degree:
I am from Kansas City, MO! I attended Truman State University located in Kirksville, MO (about 3.5 hours away from KCMO) to complete all of my prerequisites as well as receive my Bachelors of Science in Biology.
Hobbies:
When I was in high school, I was on the school archery team and traveled to places like Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN to compete in national tournaments against teams across the US. I like to practice in my free time even though I didn’t compete competitively in college. I also enjoy reading (give me some good book recommendations!!)
Why RCoN?
I chose to attend RCoN because it was close to home and I loved the atmosphere of the campus and the people. Everyone has been so welcoming and makes an effort to get to know you. I can already tell that the people in my cohort are going to become some of my closest friends because of how encouraging and inviting they all are. Everyone truly is a team and wants each and every person to succeed in their endeavors.
Why be an ambassador?
Becoming an RCoN Ambassador is a great way to get involved around campus, as well as getting to know not only fellow students, but faculty and future students as well. You also get to become involved with the community through sharing the joys of nursing school at RCoN and volunteering in a multitude of different ways and locations.

Chloe Huegerich

Chloe Huegerich, Student Ambassador
Cohort:
TBSN 2024
High School:
Shawnee Mission Northwest '20
Completed Pre-Requisites at:
I attended UCM from fall 2020 to spring 2022 for my prerequisites!
Hobbies:
Some of my hobbies are playing sand volleyball with my friends, kayaking, and crocheting!
Why RCoN?
I chose RCoN because of the proximity to home and the welcoming group of faculty, staff and students. It was also really nice knowing that a large amount of my tuition would be covered by the HCA forgiveness program!
Advice for prospective students:
A piece of advice for prospective nursing students would be to keep your mind open. Even if you go into the program thinking you know what specialty you want to go into, it’s highly likely that another area will spark your interest between clinical and lecture.

Mikayla Norman

Mikayla Norman, Student Ambassador
Cohort:
Traditional BSN class of 2024
Completed Pre-Requisites:
Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg Kansas
Why RCoN?
I choose RCoN because of the sense of community it gave me when I came to tour. I felt very comfortable and at home. I also knew going to a nursing program that was hospital affiliated would potentially give me more experiences than any other program could. I also knew a few girls from high school that went through the program and said how much they loved it. Overall this has been the best experience!
Why did you want to be an ambassador?
When the application came out about being a student ambassador I knew I wanted to apply to help others see how amazing this nursing school is. While also being a student tutor I have seen the positives in having a sound board for other students or potential students be there to help guide them in this new journey. Nursing school is like none other and the community you have around you is so important when completing this dream! My hope with being an ambassador is to be able to help push and motivate those that I come across during my time here.
Advice for prospective students:
My biggest advice is to believe in yourself, you were meant to do this!

Rylee Glass

Rylee Glass, Student Ambassador
Cohort:
TBSN 2025
Completed Pre-Requisites at:
I am from Hutchinson Kansas which is 3 hours away! A couple of my courses were completed at Hutchinson Community College but the rest were done at Johnson County Community College where I graduated with my associate degree in science and my associate’s in liberal arts. GO CAVS!
Hobbies:
I love the gym and being with friends. The gym gives me an escape from all my stress the that can come from work and school, It is also really good for your body so that’s a plus! I may not be the best at it but I do enjoy it and that is what’s important. Along with the gym and friends, I also find it nice to stay home and relax! Netflix and true crime is my jam! I am also a proud cat mom which is also something I love to share!
Why RCoN?
I chose RCoN because of the hands-on aspect of it, I loved that it was in a hospital setting that really caught my eye. When I started applying, the staff here were amazing; they answered all my questions (and trust me I had a lot!) along with being so welcoming and open about everything. I knew it was the right school for me then.
Advice for prospective students:
My piece of advice is to never be afraid to ask questions or for help! I can guarantee that someone else is probably wondering the same thing or they have not thought of it yet and it will help them as well!

Chanz Hale

Chanz Hale, Student Ambassador
Cohort:
TBSN 2025
High School:
William Chrisman High School, graduated in 2021.
Completed Pre-Requisites at:
MCC - Blue River, graduated with an Associates of Science - Preprofessional Health Studies
Hobbies:
When I’m not doing school related things, I am working as a bookseller at Barnes & Noble. It’s the best job ever! Otherwise in my free time I like to consume personal growth content through different media. I always strive to create a better version of myself. I also study interior design in my free time.
Why RCoN:
I always say that RCoN chose me. When I was a junior in high school, my CNA teacher brought her friend who worked for the college. When I saw how passionate she was about the programs RCoN offers, it was a done deal. Later that month, I applied as an early admissions student and got accepted.
Advice for prospective students:
I would tell prospective nursing students to keep an open mind. You will hear about everyone’s experience from all angles. Some will have had the time of their life and some may say it’s the hardest thing that you’ll go through. Know that everyone will experience nursing school differently. As long as you’re passionate and engaged, everything will work out. Take a breath and don’t stress.
